Bowling A Strike

Meet Don Bowling, and the crew at “Bowling Transportation” out of Middletown Ohio. Don has one of the most impressive rigs on the face of the planet and it serves as a flagship for the cure for breast cancer.

Like I said this is not just a beautiful rig, but one on a mission. Don and his wife Roxy built this flagship in honor of her grandmother Ellen L Dulaney, a 10 year breast cancer survivor, and out of the necessity increasing breast cancer awareness in the world today.

Don along with the President and founder Bill Bowling, set out on a mission that would indeed “wow” all that would one day see their vision. In the fall of 2010 the Bowling crew set the wheels in motion, transforming a wrecked 2006 Peterbilt 379 into this massive icon. The truck was strippeddown to the frame rails and then the artists started to perform their duties. Everyone from painters, sanders, sheet metal polishers and assemblers went into action.

The truck is a rolling example and reminder of how important breast cancer awareness is, not only to the Bowling family, but to the whole world.

This truck is a masterpiece! It’s a 2006 Peterbilt 379 conventional extended hood, 300” wheelbase, huge caterpillar engine, 8”sky scrapper exhaust, 22” bumper, 18” visor, and 6 Peterbilt toolboxes.

The rig has over 250 lights, with polished light bars all around the rig. The custom deck plate is polished to a mirrored finish and has 2” marker lights extending from one end to the other. It also boasts a polished 5th wheel, polished individual full fenders, 120 gal tanks, and air ride sleeper shocks covered with a custom polished cover and rear window visor. The custom rear bumper is accented with a host of 3” LED break lights.

The Pink paint scheme is just right for this tribute vehicle. All of the ribbons and banners are equally set for just the right amount of color combined in the pearl white and metal flake paint.

The trailers are custom “MAC” 28’ multi axle platform trailer built for the hauler of coils or extremely heavy loads. This is not just a Conestoga unit but a custom Fastrak rolling tarp system with all of the wonderful sponsors and breast cancer ribbons in custom pink designs. The bulk head is done in the same pink paint scheme with polished inserts and entrance doors. Custom light bars are under the tarps for 2” maker lights, and all are polished by in house staff from Bowling’s shop crew.

The custom paint is the work of Brien Foster of Foster Auto Repair. This man is truly a master at his trade! The custom blends and custom over sprays he created transformed this beast into a masterpiece of rolling art work for the highway masters to marvel at.

In 2011 the Bowling truck made its’ debut of the “Trucking for the Cure” at the MidAmerica Truck Show in the MAC trailer booth. Since that day, the truck has had the honor of being in a host of shows, parades, and all kinds of events to enhance the awareness of the mission.

Unfortunately grandmother Dulaney passed away in March 2011 (unrelated to breast cancer). Still, in her honor, the big Peterbilt and her team of trailers will continue to be a voice heard in the night carrying that sign on the highway...the bill board of hope. This overland train continues to be a symbol of her strength and a constant rolling impression for all to see.

Seeing this truck in person is breathtaking. Seeing it in print that is the next best thing as there truly is nothing like the real thing! No matter how or when you see this majestic machine, you will be a witness to how much caring and love for the cause that went into this creation. You don’t’ have to be a bowler to know that the team from
Bowling Transportation is winners who make strikes every day
